Technical Test Shoots & Meeting Volunteers

This week, I have been interviewing some volunteers I hope will appear in my project. It is a great part of the work; these are all interesting people. I am chatting to them about what motivates them to give up their time. Some of the interviewees know other volunteers, and the network grows. I will be making some images with the first of my sitters in the next couple of weeks.

I have also been setting up test shoots at home. I am playing with depth of field. The decision comes down to whether to keep my subject separated from the background or keep everything in focus so the viewer can build a story about the person I am shooting. Maybe predictably, I am currently happiest with images that sit between the two extremes. I have also played with lighting, mixing light boxes with flash and natural light. I have a good number of test shots now and will review them over the coming days.

My reflective presentation is in better shape now; I am happier with it now, and we are getting close to the submission date.

The course continues to deliver. We were treated to a session with a course graduate, and it proved both useful and inspirational.

I attach one of my test shots below.
